Alasdair Stables completes term as Concrete Society President

Alasdair Stables, Managing Director of PERI Ltd has stepped down from his role as President of The Concrete Society. 

Stables, who followed David Ball into the role in 2011, was succeeded by Paul Browne at the AGM on 25 July and said;

“After serving The Concrete Society for two years the time has come to hand over to my successor. I am delighted that Paul Browne has agreed to stand as President of the Society for the next two years; he knows that he can count on my support, not only as immediate Past President, but also in my role of Managing Director of PERI (UK) Ltd, a company-member of the Concrete Society.

A half century of celebration for Wessex Group

The Wessex Group held a magnificent gala celebration to mark the company’s 50th anniversary in style.

Hundreds of staff, former employees and their partners attended the dinner at the Bournemouth International Centre.

Roderick Pettigrew appointed B&Es Chief Executive

Commenting on the appointment, B&ES president Bruce Bisset explained that, having served as deputy chief executive of the Association (formerly the HVCA) since 2008, Mr Pettigrew had an unrivalled understanding of the Association and a deep appreciation of the needs of its membership.

A businessman who runs an asbestos removal company is in line for a national Institute of Directors award after winning the regional title in which he was described as the “standout candidate”.

Chris Taylor becomes BPF junior vice president

Chris Taylor, chief executive at fund manager Hermes Real Estate Investment Management Limited, has today become junior vice president of the British Property Federation.

The move will eventually see Taylor become president of the BPF in two year’s time, where he will succeed David Marks and Bill Hughes as the property industry trade body’s president.

British Property Federation (BPF) appoints new Director of Finance

Ion Fletcher will become the new Director of Finance at the British Property Federation (BPF) in September, succeeding Peter Cosmetatos when he leaves to become Chief Executive of CREFC Europe.

Fletcher has spent three years as Senior Policy Officer at the property trade association, having previously held positions in Ernst & Young’s Real Estate and Construction team.

Martin Clarke awarded OBE in Queens Birthday Honours

Martin Clarke, Chief Executive of the British Precast Concrete Federation, has been awarded an OBE in the Queen’s birthday honours list for services to industry.

Martin has expressed great delight and surprise at the award. “ I am overwhelmed at this recognition and especially delighted that the citation is for services to industry. This is a great boost for an unsung but critical British manufacturing industry.”

New contracts manager for sealant specialist

Nationwide sealant fit and supply specialist S&D Sealants is delighted to welcome a new member to its Yorkshire and Lancashire team.

Leeds-born Jamie Madden is taking on the role of Contracts Manager, joining a workforce of 75 industry experts at the family-run company.

New contracts manager for Scottish sealant specialist

A UK-wide sealant specialist has appointed a new Glasgow-based Sales Manager in order to cement the company’s expansion into Scotland.

Davie Graham, who is originally from Cumbernauld, has been taken on by S&D Sealants, who specialise in the supply and fit of sealants and mastics to the construction trade across Scotland, Wales and England.

Shirley Watson joins as an Independent Non-Executive Director

The Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB) is delighted to announce that Shirley Watson has joined its board of directors as an independent Non-Executive Director and Chair of its Audit Committee.

Shirley is a Chartered Civil Engineer with over 30 years of diverse management and technical experience gained with contractors, consultants and regulators including executive positions at WSP Group, Wimpey and NHBC. In recent years she has designed and delivered transformational business change projects within the construction industry and she brings this experience of strategy development and project implementation to the ECITB.

UKATA announces new CEO appointment

The UK Asbestos Training Association (UKATA) has announced the senior appointment of Terry Barker MA, PG DIP, as Chief Executive Officer. This newly-created role serves to continue to enhance the organisation as the leading training association in its field.

Terry will officially take up his new duties with the Association from 1 January 2013, and his appointment ends UKATA’s search for a suitably experienced and qualified CEO to take the Association forward. Terry is now tasked with leading from the front and achieving the ambitious growth targets set by the Executive Committee.

“We are delighted to have secured Terry’s services as our new CEO,” said UKATA Chairman Mike Smith. “Several high calibre candidates were interviewed but the Executive Committee felt Terry ticked all the right boxes, with his combination of knowledge, expertise and passion essential for this key post. Terry’s reputation in the industry precedes him and I’m sure his appointment will prove an important strategic watershed for the Association.”
