London waste expert urges builders to recycle

With around 100 million tonnes of rubbish coming from the construction sector annually, one waste removal expert is urging builders to clean up their act and go green.
Harsha Rathnakaye from London-Junk.co.uk has been collecting commercial rubbish in the capital for over nine years.
He aims to recycle over 80% of the rubbish he collects and says builders should be trying do the same.

Flexcrete’s 851 coating stands the test of time for 28 years

Chloride attack is one of the primary causes of damage on reinforced concrete structures and independent tests have confirmed that Flexcrete’s Cementitious Coating 851 provides an effective barrier to chlorides for at least 28 years.
In 1988, a 2mm thick film of Cementitious Coating 851 was applied to a concrete slice and sealed in a chloride ion diffusion cell and it is still going strong some 28 years (10,179 days) later. Ongoing tests carried out in the laboratory at the VINCI Technology Centre in Bedfordshire show that the barrier properties of 851 have not changed after a test period spanning the ongoing 28 years.

HoloLens - the future of construction from Trimble and Cambridge University

November saw the announcement of the release of Trimble’s SketchUp Viewer to the Windows Store, the first broadly available commercial Microsoft HoloLens application. Trimble is using HoloLens and SketchUp Viewer to bring mixed reality to the construction industry, enabling Architecture, Engineering Construction and Operations (AECO) professionals to extend the value and investment that they have already made in 3D modeling. SketchUp Viewer on HoloLens allows people to inhabit their designs in a natural and immersive way, creating improved collaboration and a better understanding of designs in real scale. This exciting collaboration was the first application of its kind and, as it turns out, just the beginning!

The UK’s oldest scaffolding contractor, Palmers Scaffolding – formed in 1880 by Edwin Palmer – has a new owner, British entrepreneur Colin Butt who runs a number of established business from his UK base at Aviation House, Aviation Park, Chester.
In a divestment process at the end of 2016 (which came into effect January 4th 2017), the leading scaffolding and access solutions brand Palmers was sold to businessman Colin Butt by previous German owners XERVON GmbH, who were looking to off-set some of their non-EU businesses, post Brexit.

Green Roof makes a splash in Cannon Hill

A residential property in London which recently added an extension to house a swimming pool and changing rooms has made its roof space more appealing by creating a lavender and mixed herb green roof.
The project at Cannon Hill was designed and installed by Wild About Roofs, who specialise in supplying and installing an innovative range of herb and wildflower roofs. They commissioned Boningale GreenSky to provide a variety of lavender, rosemary and thyme plants for the new pool house’s flat roof. Unlike many commercial wildflower roofs, these larger plants were supplied as small pots to provide instant impact for a highly visible site.
