A dynamic partnership of education providers has been awarded £400,000 to address skills gaps in the construction industry.
Gateshead College has joined forces with Northumbria University and Derby College to launch the BRIDGE Project, a research programme that will investigate why there are low numbers of women, people from disadvantaged backgrounds, ethnic minority groups, people with disabilities, mature and part-time students enrolling on construction-related degree courses.

Following the installation of a state-of-the-art Recycling Plant at Mick George’s St. Ives site, Kiverco and Mick George Ltd are delighted to be shortlisted as finalists for ‘Business Partnership of the Year’ at the upcoming National Recycling Awards.
Mick George Ltd, who offer a wide range of Waste Management services, approached Kiverco to design and manufacture a new Recycling Plant to meet the growing demand for its services. BALI membership hits 900 at Year End 2016/17

On the last day of the association’s financial year 2016/17 the team at Landscape House is celebrating welcoming BALI’s 900th member. This tops off an incredible, celebratory year, which included the 40th BALI National Landscape Awards – the largest ever, attended by 963 guests.
On being told that his company had helped BALI reach such an important milestone in its 45 year history, Tom Seward, owner of Newbury-based TS Landscapes, said: “I am delighted to have been awarded BALI Registered status as this is something I have strived to achieve for a long time now, and to hear that TS Landscapes is BALI’s 900th member is a bonus; well done BALI!”
Recent findings show worrying trends for construction and engineering

The latest survey measuring trends and confidence within the bid market, undertaken by Get Serious Bids with key bid and tender professionals within construction and engineering businesses, has thrown up some interesting results.
The results for 2017, compared to last year, show that there is still a volume of opportunities available to the majority of organisations. However the number of organisations who have seen the amount of opportunities reduce in value has doubled to over 42%. There is also a shift from 62% down to 52% of companies who believe there are more opportunities than last year.

Successful sting operation thanks to AMI Group

When a contractor was having major problems with small items of plant machinery being stolen from their fleet of equipment, they approached plant tracking specialist AMI Group for help.
AMI Group fitted several of the contractor’s machines and generators with covertly installed tracking devices and within just a few weeks, a small petrol generator was stolen but quickly recovered thanks to the AMI tracking device. The generator was hidden in a sub-contractor’s van and was successfully recovered by the Police on the individual’s driveway in Walsall, West Midlands. The machine recovered is the smallest item of tracked plant that AMI Group has ever recovered in the company’s history.

The new development of one, two, three and four bedroom homes on Brunswick Road, Gloucester has been launched with first time buyers in mind. Linden Homes was determined to provide excellent quality homes to potential owners. With that in mind, roofing contractor WJ Morley and Son, specified Wolfin’s products and purchased Cosmofin through the Swindon branch of Wolfin’s distribution partner, Raven Roofing Supplies.

E-gloves to protect workers from dangerous vibration levels

Gloves embedded with tiny sensors are being developed by Nottingham Trent University to help protect construction workers from exposure to vibration.
Led by Professor Tilak Dias, of the School of Art & Design, the technology aims to alert wearers to when they experience vibrations likely to cause conditions such as vibration white finger and carpal tunnel syndrome.
