Southwest renewable energy industry praises Coastline & Kensa

Cornish manufacturer Kensa Heat Pumps and Coastline Housing have received industry acclaim with an award for their recent renewable heating upgrade project; the first of its kind in Cornwall.

The collaboration which featured Kensa manufactured ground source heat pumps was named ‘Best Renewable Energy Scheme of the Year’ at the Regen SW Green Energy Awards on the 29th November 2016 at the Assembly Rooms in Bath.

Mobile Mini acquires two container sales and hire businesses

Mobile Mini, a leading hirer of portable site accommodation and secure storage containers, with its global headquarters in Arizona, USA and UK operations based in Stockton-on-Tees, has announced the acquisition of two storage container sales and hire businesses.

Mr Box Ltd, based near Ipswich, services customers across the UK and has a fleet of approximately 2,600 containers for hire, as well as a substantial container sales and conversion business. The company has built a reputation for superb customer service and has established a position as a niche supplier to the fast-growing self-storage industry. The sale will see Mr Box operate as a separate division within Mobile Mini, supported by Mobile Mini's national network of branches.

Explore offsite zone to be showcased at Ecobuild

Ecobuild has announced that it will be partnering with Cogent Consulting, leading experts in offsite construction and Radar Communications, the organisers of the Explore Offsite series of events and conferences, to deliver a focused exhibition zone and series of offsite masterclasses for the 2017 edition of the show.

Acorn Scaffolding (Yorkshire) Ltd win NASC Innovation Award

The winner of the inaugural NASC Scaffolding Product Innovation Award has been announced at the confederation’s AGM as Acorn Scaffolding (Yorkshire) Ltd – for their impressive £1.8M 50m (w) x 20m (h) x 90m (l) ‘Acorn Super Structure’ temporary roof at the Creamfields Steel Yard event this Summer.

And a highly commended NASC Product Innovation Award has been given to TRAD Scaffolding Co Ltd for their revolutionary ‘Big Ben Braked Gin Wheel’ – designed to stop scaffolding loads plummeting from height.

NASC Apprentice of the Year 2016 announced at AGM

The NASC announced the results of its Apprentice of the Year 2016 Award at its Annual General Meeting in Amsterdam on Friday November 25th – with Kier Phur (pictured) of TRAD Scaffolding Co Limited winning, Lisa Duncan of A & J Maintenance Support Limited named as runner-up and a posthumous special mention going to Mike Towell of Interserve Industrial Services.

A trophy and a cash prize of £500 will be awarded to Kier Phur, whilst his employer TRAD Scaffolding Co Ltd will also receive a trophy and £500 – to be spent on scaffolding training with a CISRS approved training provider in 2017.

NASC 2016 AGM - busy agenda reflects high activity levels

The NASC held its AGM at the Grand Hotel Krasnopolsky in Amsterdam on Friday November 25th – releasing a range of news from the UK scaffolding industry trade body, including a record level of membership.

The busy agenda – reflecting the high activity levels of the confederation and its membership – included speeches from President, Alan Lilley (Commercial Scaffolding Ltd), Vice-President and Chair of the NASC Hire, Sale & Manufacturing Committee, Des Moore (TRAD Group MD), Training Director & CISRS Manager, Dave Mosley and NASC MD, Robin James, to a full audience of NASC contracting, hire and sales and information members.

JCB donates £15,000 prize for Lighthouse Club charity auction

A mini excavator worth more than £15,000 is to be auctioned off to raise funds for a charity which provides welfare and financial support for the construction industry.

The Lighthouse Club will be celebrating its 60th anniversary at the famous Construction Industry Charity Christmas Lunch at the Park Plaza Hotel, Westminster on Friday, December 2nd.

Kensa Heat Pumps - unravelling open loop water systems

Water source heat pump systems are becoming increasingly popular, but one lesser known water source application is open loop systems. 

Open loop collectors take the form of two separate straight pipe collectors. These designs abstract and filter the water through the heat pump. This water is then discharged either back to the water source or another discharge area.
