Dundee students get a taste of the built environment industry

Students from Dundee & Angus College have spent the week with infrastructure giant Robertson after winning a prestigious student challenge. 

The team of four students triumphed over twenty participating teams from higher education bodies across Scotland competing in the Chartered Institute of Building’s (CIOB) Student Challenge – which until this year was only open to universities.

ZARGES launches fire-proof case to transport lithium-ion batteries safely

Chosen for their low weight and high efficiency, lithium-ion batteries are a central part of electric cars, battery-powered tools and smartphones. However, their extremely high energy density harbours considerable risk of fire. Dangerous goods packaging expert, ZARGES, is expanding its portfolio with the launch of the K470 Battery Box aluminium case, specially designed for transporting and safekeeping lithium-ion batteries.

Carpenders Farm Care Home by Mick George

Disused for many years, the Carpenders Park Farm properties on Oxhey Lane, Watford was released for sale back in 2016, and activity will shortly commence on a new 78 bed care home on part of the land. 

Construction specialist Mick George Ltd will begin earthworks for the project on behalf of Wildgoose Construction Ltd imminently.

The state of the British construction industry in 2018

imgA turbulent start to the year masked the true potential of the British construction industry in 2018's first few months, as a prolonged winter ended with the disruption of the 'Beast from the East' weather system. Valve and Actuator manufacturer Actuated Valve Supplies discussed further.

This brought strong winds and heavy rain for much of March, and was followed by the less severe 'Beaster' weekend, as further weather warnings were issued in the run-up to Easter.

Bull’s guide to effective fire safety awareness

The HSE estimates that there are 11 construction fires every day, which can cost the industry over £1 million each day. 

According to The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, employers are legally required to provide information, instruction and awareness to employees about fire precautions in the workplace.
