Star Platforms raises its game with £2m investment in working at height equipment

Business is on the up at Bedfordshire-based Star Platforms, as the company invests £2 million in new working at height equipment to support the opening of its fifth depot. 

Founded in 2014, Star Platforms helps businesses work safely at height by providing them with a range of powered access equipment, including scissor lifts, cherry pickers and low-level platforms. Following the success of its branches in Luton, Leicestershire, Berkshire and Kent, the firm has recently opened a fifth depot in Thetford, enabling it to serve all parts of Anglia.

Trucks: the drive to support the housing surge

Moreton Cullimore, Managing Director of 90-year old haulage and aggregates company The Cullimore Group, shares his thoughts on the key role trucks play in the construction industry and on the housing surge, as well as the growing difficulties the transport industry is facing.

The UK’s affordable housing supply is sparse while the demand is continuously growing. With the UK government promising to build 300,000 new homes every year until 2020, the construction industry is set to see a huge increase in the demand for materials.

Compiled by Fast Track, a leading research and events company, the table ranks Britain’s private mid-market growth companies with the biggest sales.

Collab Group hold event for national roll out of Bridge into Construction programme

Collab Group recently held a national rollout event for its innovative Bridge into Construction programme. The event was held at Birmingham Metropolitan College on 9th October 2018. The event was attended by almost 70 delegates who joined to celebrate the success of the programme to date and look forward to the full national roll out of the programme in this new academic year. 

11 colleges are involved in the national roll out with 69 learners currently enrolled onto the programme. The ambition is for over 150 learners to complete the programme over the course of the current academic year with an ambition for 1,000 learners to complete the programme over the next five years.

Soil mixing provides engineered solution for housing project

Soil stabilisation and ground remediation specialist Deep Soil Mixing Ltd is for the first time using soil mixing solutions for foundations as an alternative to piling on a high quality housing project in St Mary's Bay, Kent.

The company's soil stabilisation techniques are being used for the first time across the whole site area under residential dwellings to prevent extreme settlements from variable ground. These works are shaving more than a year off the programme for a conventional 'Surcharge' solution as well as providing improved stability behind coastal defences for client Compass Builders Ltd.
