Ground-breaking ceremony for new student village

A group of VIPs officially marked the start of construction work on a new student village in a ground-breaking ceremony at the University of Sussex yesterday (Wednesday 17 May 2017).
Professor Michael Davies, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research) at the University, and David Swarbrick, Managing Director of Balfour Beatty, were joined by the Mayor of Brighton & Hove, Councillor Pete West, and Maureen Chowen, the High Sheriff of East Sussex, at the site at Falmer.

Mobile Mini, a leading hirer of portable site accommodation and secure storage containers, with its global operations based in Arizona, USA and UK headquarters at Stockton-on-Tees, has made a further £1m investment into its range of industry-leading, energy-efficient, mobile welfare units.
The company, which has 16 branches nationwide, from Glasgow to Southampton, has continued to strengthen its partnership with South Wales-based Genquip Groundhog, and will see the size of its fleet of Groundhog GP360 Fusion units increase by 50% in the first half of 2017.

Student builders breeze through skills contest

Two Sunderland College students have been crowned the best brickies in a regional skills challenge.
Construction students Jordan King and Stephen Urwin won first and second place in the North East Inter-Colleges Bricklaying Competition, held at New College Durham.
The contest involved students from four colleges who were tasked with a complex bricklaying challenge which had to be completed in five hours.
