Gardens development set for demo works

Progress on the award-winning Acton Gardens development in West London is steaming ahead, with Construction now underway across Phase 7.1 of the £600m project, which is a joint venture between Countryside Properties and L&Q.

Acton Gardens is one of the largest residential regeneration schemes in London, aiming to transform the 52-acre site of the former South East estate in to a vibrant new urban quarter. When complete, the scheme will deliver over 2,500 new homes, along with enhanced transport links, retail and community facilities and extensive public open spaces, throughout a 21 multi-phased initiative that is anticipated to be complete in 2026.

Ladder Standards: most important changes in a quarter of a century

The Ladder Association, the not-for-profit industry body dedicated to height safety, has published an 8-page guide explaining what it describes as the most important changes to portable ladder standards since BS EN 131 - the single British and European product standard - was first introduced. 

The Association’s free guide highlights the key changes for specifiers, users and health and safety professionals, and for managers and supervisors responsible for the safety of employees using ladders in the workplace.

Best practices of fire safety

Fires on construction sites are usually an unexpected occurrence, however when do they happen, they can have devastating consequences which can damage a business and put workers at risk. 

According to HSE, each year, hundreds of fires break out on construction sites , and construction sites or buildings under construction are more vulnerable to fires breaking out than completed and occupied sites, as there are more risks and hazards posed on a work-in-progress worksite.

Sleek design, and slinky attributes

It may not be completely driverless, but the CAT 966M is certainly relieving many of the traditional tasks associated with maneuvering a Loading Shovel for operators, and one company who has quickly embraced the recent design modification is Mick George Ltd.

Scaffold Apprenticeship comes to the Humber Region

Safety & Access Ltd have been delivering the CISRS scaffolding apprenticeship at their Nottingham centre for over seven years now and are excited to be able to offer this framework to the Humber region at our purpose built training facility at CATCH near Stallingborough.

If you are an employer, you have probably considered the pros and cons of employing an apprentice to assist you in your business. You are not alone, as there are 1000s of construction companies across the UK that have had the same thoughts.

With Interviews already well on the way for our Nottingham intake starting on 3rd October 2017, interviews beginning shortly this month for the intake starting 13th November 2017 at CATCH.

And the NASC and CISRS stand is set to be a major pull to event delegates – with a vast array of free information and industry-leading guidance on offer.

Mick George Ltd are 'Gunning' for lease success

At first glance, a Construction Company may not seem the obvious choice when seeking to purchase or lease a vehicle, regardless of its purpose, private or business. However, when you delve a little deeper, and recognise that said’ operation already runs a fleet in excess of 400 different vehicle types, for which they are highly reliant, it starts to become visably clearer.

That said, for an organisation that functions in a completely different market to have the foresight, let alone knowledge to suitably add this service to its portfolio is another challenge altogether. For many, such conceptulisations are ditched at the first sight of an obsticle, but not at Mick George Ltd.

Bringing Offsite to the Build Show!

The Modular and Portable Building Association (MPBA) will be hosting the Offsite Area at this year’s Build Show (part of the wider Construction Week). 

New for this year, The Offsite Area will be the key hub for all things Offsite & Modular. Central to the Offsite Area will be the Offsite Theatre, which will feature an array of fantastic and influential speakers discussing everything Offsite, Modular and Volumetric.

The conference programme will run for the full 3 days with a number of different topics being discussed throughout. The content will be geared around the impact of Volumetric in Education, Residential and Healthcare. High quality educational presentations will be delivered on subjects such as Offsite Specification and training and skills shortages within the industry, many of the presentations will be CPD accredited to help you collect the hours!
