Shea Ryan – ten-years old - managed to gain access into a building site in Glasgow with friends through insecure perimeter hoarding. He tried to climb down an open manhole, lost his footing, and suffered a fatal fall.

Leeds College of Building plumbing department receives top exam results

8H1AJjxA recent examination report for Level 2 and 3 ‘technical’ plumbing qualifications at Leeds College of Building reveals exceptional results for 2023.

Overall pass rates for the exam element of the City & Guilds Level 2 Technical Certificate in Plumbing Studies at the College were 100% compared to a national average of 87%, with 40% of students achieving a Distinction grade.

Spider operator ‘jumps at chance' to go large with Hinowa

APS Hinowa Fletcher Access Apr 23 MEDWork at height specialist Fletcher Access has placed an order for the new Hinowa Lightlift 40.18 - the biggest spider lift ever produced by Hinowa - as it renews its platform fleet.

The Worcester-based company has also taken delivery of a new Hinowa Lightlift 20.10 spider lift, putting it to good use on a maintenance project at a 19th Century Grade II listed Greek Revival country house.

The £76m project, to reduce flood risk in Mansfield, will create a surface water drainage system that can hold 58 million litres of water – roughly the equivalent of 23 Olympic-sized swimming pools.

York Handmade plays pivotal role in prestigious Liverpool development

The Easingwold-based firm, one of the leading independent brick-makers in the country, has supplied specially manufactured bricks for the stunning Renshaw Hall development.

Altogether York Handmade provided bricks 200,000 bricks, worth £160,000, for the site, which is located on the edge of the Rodney Street Conservation Area in Liverpool city centre, close to two universities.

Garden designer Carolyn Hardern and landscaper Jon Jarvis are working with Leeds College of Building to raise awareness of mental health within the construction industry through a unique show garden. The design has been accepted for the RHS Flower Show Tatton Park from 19-23 July 2023 but requires additional sponsors to finalise the project.
