Once you have successfully completed OLCI’s plumbing training, you will be qualified to fit, install and maintain bathrooms, fix radiators, work with airing cupboards and water tanks, and you’ll be able to work with copper and plastic pipes.
A career in the trades can be a flexible way to earn money – either with your own business or at a company. To give you an insight into training with OLCI, they asked some of our existing learners what they thought.
Wayne Hill chose the plumbing training from OLCI because ‘it was a much easier way to get to the training centres as it is within close proximity of my area’. Wayne wanted to get qualified in the trades so that he can ‘improve my quality of life and become a self-employed tradesman’. At the time he started the course, Wayne was an ‘HGV driver’. The best part of his training is ‘everything as this is such a diverse move for me as I have never done DIY at all’. Wayne explained that ‘John also gave us excellent tuition and his knowledge is endless’. Adding to this, Wayne said that ‘John is invaluable to your company as his knowledge, experience and teaching skills are second to none’. Wayne says that his practical training is ‘very well organised and has provided me with the correct methods and skills to carry on improving the way I use the skills as I progress through my new career.’ Overall, Wayne agrees that he would ‘recommend OLCI to a friend’ and that he will ‘use the OLCI Career Support for job or business support’. When Wayne successfully completes his training, he would like to ‘become a self-employed plumber’.
Carl Rugman wanted to get qualified in the trades so that he can ‘use my newly trained skills to eventually run my own business one day’. He chose the OLCI plumbing training as ‘the salesman was very knowledgeable, the brochures were easy to understand and the location was good for me’. Carl’s last job before enrolling was as ‘a manager in a sand and gravel quarry’. Carl liked ‘the teaching methods of the trainers. They know their stuff, are good communicators and very knowledgeable.’ This is because ‘of their experience in the trade. Also the workshops are fully equipped with good tools.’ Carl says that the OLCI tutors are ‘fantastic. Calm, even under pressure.’ Carl agrees that he has ‘gained valuable skills during my training’ and the ‘support I receive from OLCI is helpful’.
