Construction skills taster day as industry mood is lifted

CECE-CONSTRUCTION-TASTER-DAYDespite global financial turmoil and continued economic uncertainty the mood of the UK construction sector has been lifted by a number of positive stories related to the industry, says leading market intelligence providers Insight Data.

Insight’s research discovered that major construction firms such as Costain and Taylor Wimpey have increased their order books and experienced strong growth leading into 2012.
Insigh’s research also highlighted the need for young people to accquire the key skills required to fuel the future of the industry and called for investment and top-class training for young people looking to build a career in the construction industry. In North Somerset, Weston College is beginning this process by hosting a free construction skills taster day on Wednesday, November 23.

From 1pm to 4.30pm experts at the Construction and Engineering Centre of Excellence will show people the basics in brickwork, plastering, carpentry and electrical installation. Attendees will then have the opportunity to have a go themselves and everyone is welcome.
Centre Director, Roger Powell, said: “This taster is about showing just what we have to offer – high quality training in a work-like environment.
“If they like what they see we then offer a Level 2 fast-track 15-week course starting on December 5th and covering carpentry, maintenance operations, plastering electrical installation.
“We not only offer those who sign up the potential for a new career but a way of saving money when it comes to DIY.

The Construction and Engineering Centre of Excellence runs a wide range of courses with start dates throughout the year.
