Training successes recognised at Kier Sheffield

Residents in Yorkshire are set to receive an easier, quicker and more efficient service thanks to staff at Kier Sheffield. More than 70 employees have successfully completed training in plumbing, plastering and gas engineering as part of Kier’s ongoing investment in training and development programmes to improve the service it provides to residents.

Kier Sheffield, which carries out repairs and maintenance jobs to properties across the city on behalf of Sheffield City Council, is constantly looking for ways to provide a better service to residents as well as provide unique training opportunities for its direct employees, 97 per cent of which come from a Sheffield postcode.

Team members in Sheffield took part in a number of training programmes to learn new skills such as plastering and plumbing, as well as courses such as health & safety and customer service. Training has been carried out as part of Kier Sheffield’s commitment to developing its staff and helping them achieve their potential during their careers with the company.

Kier Sheffield operations director, Scott Murray, attended an event held for successful trainees on 20 October at Sheffield ICE, during which he presented them with awards and certificates. The awards are held bi-annually but never before have so many employees received recognition.

Kier’s regional managing director for maintenance, Simon Bullen, said: “Our operatives carry out thousands of repair jobs across the region each year. We are highly committed to providing development opportunities for our workforce and the achievements at the latest recognition event have proved how successful the team has been. By training our staff we are able to provide a high quality and efficient service to our residents as well as retaining our excellent staff members. A huge congratulations to the team for all its effort and hard work.”

The Kier Sheffield team will not be resting on its laurels following this recent success, with operatives already signed up to complete more advanced training programmes in the next 12 months.
