Construction firm joins the race to raise money for St Basil’s

Staff at Coleshill-based firm Frank Haslam Milan (FHM) are limbering up to take part in Bupa’s Great Birmingham Run this weekend in a bid to raise money for youth homeless charity St Basils.  Five members of staff from the leading community regeneration specialist will take part in the 13.1 mile televised race through the centre of Birmingham, aiming to raise £1,500 for the worthy cause.

St Basils is FHM’s chosen charity which works tirelessly with young people aged between 16 and 25 throughout the West Midlands area to help them find and keep a home as well as developing their skills, confidence and career opportunities.

As many as 15,000 people signed up to take part in this year’s marathon in aid of other local charities such as Birmingham’s Children’s Hospital, Acorns Children’s Hospice and national Cancer Research UK.

Katy Leverton, Head of Business Development at FHM, said: “We are very proud of everyone who is taking part in the marathon to support St Basils as it’s a fantastic charity which FHM has closely supported over the years.

“Every penny that’s donated will make a real difference to young people’s lives and we are very grateful for all the support that we’ve received so far.”

Apart from taking part in various fundraising activities throughout the year, FHM, which forms part of the Keepmoat group, has created several training and employment opportunities for young people at St Basils. FHM has created work placements for 14 candidates and a further four permanent positions within the company thanks to the work placement scheme.

FHM’s strong relationship with St Basils was consolidated when the contractor completed the refurbishment and extension of Carole Gething House for St Basils two years ago, providing purpose built accommodation for young people.

Lucy Hackett, Head of Fundraising and Corporate Partnerships at St Basils, said: “We feel very privileged to have had such a high level of support from FHM over the years, helping us to tackle youth homelessness in the region.

"I am delighted that some of the staff are now taking on the challenge of the Great Birmingham Run to raise money for St Basils. We thank them and wish the team the best of luck for Sunday!”
