Yarnton community celebrates opening of new nursing home

nuring homeMore than 200 local residents, dignitaries and professionals came together to celebrate the official opening of a new £8m residential and nursing home by leading housing and care provider Sanctuary Group.

Among those who attended the event at Sanctuary’s Yarnton Residential and Nursing Home, on Thursday, 10th November was the Lord Lieutenant of Oxfordshire Tim Stevenson OBE and Lord Mayor of Oxford, Cllr Elise Benjamin.

A Sanctuary Group development, Seddon Construction began work on the site in May 2010. The Rutten Lane home has been sensitively designed and beautifully finished to create a real home-from-home environment for its residents.

Yarnton Residential and Nursing Home will be managed by Sanctuary Care and features 60 en-suite bedrooms, several lounges and dining rooms, a therapy room, hairdressers, beauty salon and fragrant sensory garden.

The home is the latest addition to the care provider’s portfolio in Oxfordshire which includes Watlington and District Nursing Home and Wantage Nursing Home. Sanctuary Group has also recently started work on site on a 76 bed care development at Iffley, located in the heart of Oxfordshire.

The new home at Yarnton, which saw the first residents move in this week, provides a variety of care including nursing, palliative, specialist dementia, residential and short term ‘re-ablement’ support to help people regain independence following a hospital stay.

Steve Wood, Sanctuary’s Group Director of Care and Support said: “This event marked the culmination of many months of hard work by Sanctuary and its partners and has resulted in a fantastic care home which we are extremely proud of.

“We were delighted to see so many local residents, professionals and dignitaries come together to celebrate, what I am sure will be, a wonderful asset to the area. I am looking forward to seeing our dedicated staff and residents flourish in their new home and to welcoming the community back for events in the future.”

Lord Lieutenant of Oxfordshire Tim Stevenson OBE said: “Whilst it’s lovely to have a nice new building, it’s the quality of care that really makes all the difference to residents in care homes. Having been part of the opening event at Yarnton I’m pleased to say its residents are lucky enough to have both and I am sure they will love living there - receiving high quality care from a very dedicated team, in a wonderful building.”

The Lord Mayor of Oxford, Cllr Elise Benjamin added: “To be able to attend the event and see what great work Sanctuary does was wonderful – the care and support they provide, particularly around dementia, is inspirational. That coupled with such a lovely building which actually feels like home is fantastic – I didn’t want to leave!”
