YUILL HOMES CELEBRATES THE COMPLETION OF ST CUTHBERT’S MEWS AND COURT DEVELOPMENTS IN MIDDLESBROUGH

st cuthbertLeading North East housebuilder Yuill Homes has celebrated the completion of its St Cuthbert’s Mews and Court developments in Middlesbrough following a period of successful regeneration.

Situated in the West Lane East area of the town, the development created in partnership with West Middlesbrough Neighbourhood Trust (WMNT), Endeavour Housing Association and Middlesbrough Council has successfully provided 138 new two, three and four bedroom homes for sale, rent and shared ownership.

Having received support from the Homes and Communities Agency’s (HCA) Kickstart programme on phase two of the development in 2008, the completion of St Cuthbert’s Mews and Court has helped to breathe new life back into the area by transforming it into a desirable place to live.

Stephen Jackson, head of partnership development for Yuill Homes, said: “We’re committed to delivering and establishing sustainable communities across the North East and are proud to have worked alongside our partners on such an important regeneration project.

“The successful completion of the development was made possible through the support of the HCA’s Kickstart programme following the general slowdown in the housing market and economy at the time.

“But, thanks to the patience of the local community and dedication of partners the completion of St Cuthbert’s Mews and Court has brought positive change to the area for the benefit of future generations.”

Identified in 2006 as an area in need of regeneration, Yuill Homes was appointed by regeneration company WMNT to demolish the run-down terraced housing at the former Speedway Pub, Outhwaite Street, Keay Street and West Lane sites.

Replacing the former void and derelict housing with a selection of new two, three and four bedroom homes, Yuill Homes worked with Endeavour Housing Association to incorporate a wider choice of new housing available on-site attracting new homeowners into the area.

Sharon Stuttard, Chair of WMNT, said: “The successful completion of the St Cuthbert’s Mews and Court developments has been a long-term goal of the Trust and was one of the major regeneration projects funded under the Government’s New Deal for Communities programme.
“WMNT has been delighted to work with our partners to ensure that the local and wider community see sustainable benefits from this development well into the future.”

Angela Lockwood, Chief Executive of Endeavour Housing Association, said: “We have had a presence in this community for over thirty years and a close relationship with WMNT since its inception. It’s been hugely satisfying to see the transformation of the area, and even more exciting to have been part of it.

“The area is an excellent example of successful partnership working and community influence to bring about positive change. Endeavour has provided a range of affordable housing products, including rented and part ownership to complement the housing for sale – this mixture has worked successfully and is a model for the future.”

Councillor Charlie Rooney, Middlesbrough Council's Executive Member for Regeneration and Economic Development, said: "Yuill Homes working with Endeavour Housing, West Middlesbrough Neighbourhood Trust and Middlesbrough Council have delivered a very successful scheme during a time when the national housing economy has been at its weakest.

"This shows the quality of what has been achieved. It has changed perceptions of the area and is a testament to the strategic approach to regeneration which is transforming the town."

Ray Minto, project manager at the HCA, said: “The completion of these homes, 69 of which were funded by the HCA, marks a real change for local residents, giving them not only modern homes, but also a choice they can afford.

“The mix of homes to rent or buy means that local families can not only afford to stay in their local community but can also live in the type of house they need.”

To mark the completion of the project, Yuill Homes held a celebration event to thank all partners for their contribution and support towards the development.
