Peacock Engineering awarded major schools contract

Peacock Engineering has won a contract with Carillion to provide an asset management solution for their Irish schools Bundle 5 PPP contract.

As part of the 27 year concession, Carillion will deliver the support services to five schools and an institute of further education across Meath, Carlow, Wicklow and Wexford. To help them to effectively manage the assets during this period, they will be using an IBM Maximo system provided by Peacock Engineering.

In the United Kingdom, the IHS Markit/Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply Purchasing Managers Index measures the performance of the construction sector and is derived from a survey of 170 construction companies.In August 2017, the index dropped to a one year low of 15.1 down from 15.9 the previous month and well off the expected 52 that was forecast.

A significant drop in commercial work created the drop in the index but this was offset by a rise in house building.

School awarded for achieving Secured by Design crime prevention standards

A primary school development in Kilmarnock, Scotland, which brings together two schools on a new site, has been recognised for achieving high standards of security in its layout and landscaping as well as its physical security.

Secured by Design (SBD) trained Designing Out Crime Officers worked with architects Keppie Design (Glasgow), and Morrison Construction, a leading Scottish contractor, from the initial planning stage through to final construction to incorporate many proven crime prevention techniques into the £12.4million Whatriggs Primary School campus.

Outstanding talent from the next generation of painting and decorating professionals was on display at the recent Crown Trade Apprentice Decorator of the Year Competition.

The prestigious competition, held at Birmingham’s NEC as part of the national Skills Show, showcased the skills excellence of eight regional finalists vying for the title as well as promoting careers in the industry to more than 80,000 young people who visited the three-day event from November 16-18.

Bull Products protects world’s most famous clock, Big Ben

Bull Products, a manufacturer of life-saving fire protection equipment, has won a major contract to supply its renowned Cygnus alarm systems during the £61 million restoration of Big Ben.

Having already supplied more than 30 of its Cygnus alarm systems, more alarms are to be installed next year. The temporary alarm systems will be installed around and outside of the 96-metre-tall building, and will ensure the building is protected against intruders, whilst protecting workers on site over the next four years.
