Hinowa platforms spearhead hirer's sustainability revolution

Pioneering sustainable access provider 4Hire has taken delivery of a second lithium electric Hinowa spider platform as it powers ahead with plans to create one of the UK's most eco-friendly plant and machinery fleets.

A lithium Hinowa Lightlift 15.70 Performance IIIS was the first machine on the order book two years ago as 4Hire pledged to make itself one of the most sustainable plant hire specialists in the UK.

Keeping up with modern methods of paving

New guidance from Interpave has just been published on the detailed design and installation of modular concrete paving, covering block paving, flags and kerbs, including the growing use of efficient, fully mechanised site processes. It follows separate guidelines and a new Interpave CPD webinar presented by sustainable drainage specialist Bob Bray on the latest developments in concrete block permeable paving for SuDS.

Firestopping Best Practice Guide receives RIBA approval

The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) has approved the recently launched Firestopping of Service Penetrations, Best Practice in Design and Installation Guide as assessed Continual Professional Development (CPD) material. This enables architects to download and read the guide and log this towards their 35 hours of required CPD each year.

UCLan's first building services degree apprentices complete training

The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) is marking National Apprenticeship Week (8-14 February) by seeing its first cohort of building services design engineer degree apprentices complete their training.

The six learners’ primary role is to work with other construction professionals to design, install and maintain the mechanical and electrical installations found in buildings. They are now officially Incorporated Engineers having successfully completed their end point assessment with the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE), supported in their endeavour by staff at UCLan and their employers.
