British building confidence on the up, driven by house builders

Britain’s builders are at their most confident since 2007 as the Government’s Help to Buy scheme swells optimism among construction firms. Following the Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply’s latest findings, house builders are driving the industry forward and the rise in residential building is growing at one of the fastest rates since 2007.*

The Considerate Constructors Scheme has also noticed a boom in registrations, going up from an average of 528 per month in 2007 to 815 per month in 2014. Areas in the UK where marked registrations have increased include the Midlands and the South East.

UKATA calls for action in Global Asbestos Awareness Week

The UK Asbestos Training Association (UKATA) is backing this year’s Global Asbestos Awareness Week (1-7 April) by focusing on public awareness of the on-going dangers of asbestos and supporting US initiatives to make this a truly global campaign moving forwards in the wake of growing asbestos fears post 9/11.

“We still have legacy issues in the UK, but asbestos remains a global problem,” said UKATA Chairman Eddie Strong. “Asbestos is still the biggest cause of work related deaths in the UK and this figure is likely to rise as people develop asbestos related diseases like mesothelioma much later in life and up to 30 years after initial exposure. The aftermath of September 11 has also given new impetus to issues surrounding asbestos.”

Propump foamed concrete rescues town river wall

With the health and safety of the community paramount, 19 properties had to be evacuated following the wall collapse which left a 6 metre deep, 35 metre long chasm along the road adjacent to the River Parett.
