A-Safe take a ride on the Wall of Death in live televised world speed record

Television daredevil and professional motorcyclist Guy Martin recently smashed the Wall of Death speed world record in a live broadcast on Channel 4 – and barrier specialists A-SAFE played an important role.

Guy reached a remarkable 78.15mph while traveling around a specially-built, barrel-shaped wooden cylinder at Mandy Airfield in Lincolnshire. The wall measured 37.5 metres in diameter and was constructed from metal shipping containers and lined with timber.

NASC launches updated free scaffold specification template

The NASC has launched an updated version of its user-friendly, free Scaffold Specification Template (Guide to Managing and Appointing Scaffolding Contractors) later this month.

This popular scaffolding guide was originally developed by the NASC and is designed “to improve the quality of scaffold structures erected on construction sites and other works of engineering maintenance in accordance with current legislation, guidance and protocol and to minimise the risk of accident or injury to operatives working on or near the scaffold and the general public.”

CISRS launch promotional film to promote scaffolding as a career

CISRS has launched a bold new promotional film aimed at attracting people into a rewarding career in scaffolding through the CISRS training scheme.

The short, fast-paced, two-minute viral video was shot at approved CISRS training providers, Simian Risk Management in Warrington. It covers the basics of the industry recognised CISRS training scheme, specifically through the stories of three (Part 1, Part 2 and Advanced) scaffolders currently in training and the 2016 NASC Apprentice of the Year (Paul Howells), as well as featuring quotes from CISRS Scheme Manager, Dave Mosley and Simian Risk Management’s Training Director, Dave Abraham.

Understanding 'desire lines' - and what they mean for health & safety

Everyone will have seen the trampled path cutting across the meadow, or the well-trodden ground defining a route through wild woodland.

These tracks are created by force of numbers, not by design – and they have a name: desire paths. In an environment where people are free to roam, the desire path will correspond with another factor; the desire line.
