Safehinge saves UK schools £20 million as concerns mount over costs

A Scottish company is making a major contribution to the problem highlighted by a recent Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) report on the amount of cash being wasted on school buildings in the UK.
While the RIBA study concluded that costs of £150 million could have been avoided if schools had been better designed, Glasgow company, Safehinge, has revealed that its products have saved an estimated £20 million in life costs for British schools since 2009.

CISRS announce new Continuing Professional Development courses

CISRS has announced that from 1 June 2017 it will introduce a two day Continuing Professional Development (CPD) course, which will become a mandatory requirement prior to Scaffolder or Advanced Scaffolder card renewal.
CPD is an issue which has been discussed at length within the sector for over 10 years. Following correspondence with the HSE in 2015 urging CISRS to introduce CPD, as the scheme had been in existence for over 40 years without a formal route, it was agreed that the introduction of CPD would ensure that cardholders were kept up to date with the latest legislation and industry guidance.

Nationwide Platforms expands fleet with Hinowa tracked boom lifts

UK’s largest powered access specialist Nationwide Platforms has invested in 35 new Hinowa tracked boom lifts with working heights from 14 to 26 metres.
Comprised of a mixture of Lithium-Ion battery and bi-fuel powered units from Hinowa’s Performance IIIS series, the order includes a number of 14 metre Goldlift 14.70s, 17 metre Lightlift 17.75s, 20 metre Lightlift 20.10s and 26 metre Lightlift 26.14s. All units offer excellent working envelopes as well as impressive up and over capabilities and platform capacities.

APS is extending the deadline for the 2016 CDM National Awards

The Association for Project Safety (APS) is extending the deadline for entries into its ninth National CDM Awards to midnight on Friday 24 June.
Following a number of requests for extensions from across the industry, APS has reopened its application process to allow additional entries into the National CDM awards. The extended deadline also offers anyone who has already completed an entry, the opportunity to change and resubmit their application.

Insulating the UK’s hard-to-treat or ‘problem’ domestic dwellings

Over 23%, or 4.7 million out of the 19.6 million cavity walled domestic properties in Great Britain do not have cavity wall insulation according to the ‘Household Energy Efficiency National Statistics, Detailed Report 2015’, published by the Department of Energy & Climate Change in March 2016. Most of these are classed as ‘hard-to-treat’ dwellings which simply means that they are more difficult to insulate.
