The UK Contractors Group (UKCG) is pleased to announce the first sites to register to participate in Open Doors Weekend 2015 (on 6th and 7th March 2015). These are the VINCI Technology Centre and the VINCI ‘Bexhill to Hastings link road’ project.
Open Doors gives young people, their parents and local communities an opportunity to visit major construction sites and see what happens on a modern construction project. It is also a chance for young people in particular to learn more about the range of careers the industry has to offer.
The last Open Doors Weekend (2013) successfully saw almost 100 sites take part, with over 3000 visitors.
Many more sites will be registering over the next few months, showcasing a range of different projects. The VINCI Technology Centre is a leading construction test centre with a range of facilities including aircraft engines which generate 70mph of battering winds to test building structures; while the ‘Bexhill to Hastings’ road will help ease local congestion and improve local services.
UKCG Director Stephen Ratcliffe said, “These sites will be the first of many, and our members look forward to welcoming people next year. Construction has a great story to tell – and we want local communities to come and see the benefits projects will bring to their area. We also hope young people in particular will be able to learn more about construction careers and get excited about working in our industry”.
The Open Doors Weekend is delivered by UKCG in partnership with the Scottish Contractors Group, Considerate Constructors Scheme, CIOB, CITB and Construction News.
