New construction training partnership builds a better future

The launch of a brand new partnership between Tyne Metropolitan College and FIS Skills (the specialist skills delivery arm of Finishes & Interiors Sector Ltd) was supported by Mary Glindon MP at a recent open event at the College’s specialist construction campus, TMC, in Benton. The collaboration illustrates a joint commitment to plugging sizeable construction industry skills gaps. 

According to the latest Construction Skills Network report , construction output is expected to grow by 1.7% over the next five years, with 179,000 jobs to be created.

Lighthouse Construction charity launch mental health initiative

The Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity and the Considerate Constructors Scheme have launched a new initiative to help support the mental health agenda in the construction industry. 

Considerate Constructors Scheme registered sites, companies and suppliers can now provide their workforce with handy wallet-sized Construction Industry Helpline cards, as well as displaying posters to advertise the services.

NASC launch two regional TG20 presentations

The NASC is organising two regional TG20 presentations (North/South) – aimed directly at assisting principal contractor temporary works consultants.

The purpose of these presentations will be to promote the wider adoption of TG20 by principal contractors generally. It will also seek to dispel any myths about TG20, whilst encouraging the wider use of NASC member companies for scaffolding requirements.

New clarity given for use of air admittance valves externally

Drainage ventilation expert Studor has responded to market confusion about Air Admittance Valves (AAVs) and whether they can be used externally.

“There does seem to be confusion in the market and we’re frequently asked whether AAVs are suitable for exterior use,” comments Studor’s technical director Steve White. “Both our own Studor Maxi-Vent, as well as the Wavin branded OsmaVent 110, can be used externally. The latest BBA Agrément Certificates clarify this and specifically refer to their external use.”
