Silicones – enabling the construction revolution

Have you ever wondered how tall buildings withstand extreme conditions in the heights? Amidst howling winds and the blazing sun, the dazzling 828-meter tall Burj Khalifa in Dubai (pictured) and the 632-meter tall Shanghai Tower snake their spires up towards infinity. Their existence has only been made possible in very recent years, thanks to impressive advances in modern technology.  

Beyond height, the construction sector has made several extraordinary advances in recent years. Buildings emit less greenhouse gases and have become more energy efficient. Their construction uses less resources, and they last longer, requiring less repairs. Great strides have been made in earthquake, wind and temperature resistance, making buildings today safer than ever.

Bridge into Construction Programme is launched

Build UK and Collab Group’s ‘Bridge into Construction’ programme has launched at Sheffield College, with the one year further education course beginning on 1 October 2017.

Research by CITB and IFF Research shows that at present at least one third of young people completing a construction further education course do not continue into employment within the industry. As part of Inspiring Construction, the industry’s recruitment campaign, the Bridge into Construction course aims to ensure that young people have the training and skills the industry needs, and employers have access to the next generation of talent.

Gutters ready for Autumn?

Every November SPAB (The Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings) promote ‘Maintenance Week’ to encourage us to take a look at the buildings we are responsible for and consider spending a little time and money on their care. After all, we all expect regular maintenance checks to keep our cars in good shape – so why not our homes?

Gutters protect our buildings – our most valuable assets, whether ancient or not - Gutters manage the flow of rainwater away from our roofs, walls and foundations keeping them dry and preventing costly damage/repairs.

The MPBA have  worked with UK Construction Week to present an ‘MPBA Theatre’ along with a speaker programme the features a number of high profile people associated to the industry – the theatre has been sponsored/supported by a number of our members: Elliott, Premier Modular, Actavo Pronto Paints and non- member Velux.

During the three days the MPBA Hospitality  Area will have industry experts to discuss and give advice on various topics to include Electrical training and requirements.
