Former Loughborough school to be demolished by Mick George Ltd

Local construction business, Mick George Ltd has been contracted to complete demolition works on behalf of Westleigh Partnerships Ltd, at the former Ashmount School, Beacon Road, Loughborough.

The premises which is located adjacent to the Epinal Way junction, is currently lying vacant since the former special education facility was relocated to Charnwood College Campus, Thorpe Hill, Loughborough back in 2014.

Carillion collapse adds urgency to resolving retentions issues

The liquidation of construction giant Carillion could lead to potentially catastrophic losses for thousands of SMEs, according to the Building Engineering Services Association (BESA) and the electrotechnical and engineering services trade body ECA.

According to its latest set of accounts, Carillion was holding over £800m in retentions payments owed to sub-contractors. There is growing alarm that much of this money will be lost leaving many more firms at risk of financial collapse.

30% of workers have never received first aid training

Almost 30% of workers have never received first aid training, according to a recent survey carried out by Bull Products.

Bull Products, a manufacturer of life-saving fire protection equipment, carried out a first aid survey to address the issues within the construction industry, and what preventative measures companies need to put in place further to ensure a safer site all year round.

Modular building sector launches its own NVQ

A new workplace-based qualification has been developed by the Modular and Portable Building Association (MPBA), to ensure that future demand for skilled professionals in the sector is addressed.

The Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Innovative/Modern Methods of Construction – Modular and Portable Building has been devised over a number of years by the MPBA in conjunction with CITB, and continues to be developed. It is the first time that a single qualification has existed that is tailored to both assess and grade the skills, knowledge and competence of those working in the sector.

UK business named as one of the best in Europe on first ever ‘Ones to Watch’ list

Financial services broker, Midlands Asset Finance (MAF), has been selected to represent the United Kingdom on the European Business Awards ‘Ones to Watch’ for 2018.

Based just off junction 28 of the M1 in Derbyshire, MAF made it onto the list, which is aimed at showcasing businesses that have shown exceptional growth, innovation and accomplishment within the previous year.
