Culture and attitudes impact safe working at height

In July 2019 the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) published its annual workplace fatality figures showing that deaths due to falls from height have risen 11% in the last five years, and 14% from last year. In 2018/19, 40 fatal injuries to workers were due to falls from a height.
Falls from height continue to claim more lives in the workplace than any other factor. The latest HSE statistics demonstrate there is not one single industry that can claim it has solved the Health and Safety culture issue which still exists. While some sectors such as construction and agriculture remain the most dangerous, there is still a wide-reaching lack of education for safe Work at Height. This is even in despite efforts from government, regulators and charities to draw attention to the deadly risks.

FIS launches new project Risk Management Tool to support members

The FIS exists to raise standards within the finishes and interiors sector and at the same time reduce the risk for members. Pivotal to this work is the FIS Product Process People (PPP) Quality framework. ASFP announces October seminar in London

The seminar, at the Aviva Building, 1 Undershaft, London EC3P 3DQ, aims to improve awareness of passive fire protection and help delegates to understand the vital role of compartmentation in maintaining fire safety in buildings.
Understanding Passive Fire Protection provides an introduction to the types of passive fire protection systems found in buildings and explains the importance of the correct specification, installation and maintenance of all such systems.
