Carpentry skills help bring historic walled garden back to life

Carpentry students from Bradford College have kindly volunteered their services to help a community garden project at Yorkshire Water's Esholt Hall site.

The historic building is being renovated as a flagship Centre of Excellence for Yorkshire Water’s training academy. Bradford College students on the City & Guilds Technical Certificate in Carpentry are enhancing their skills by gaining work experience at the site and producing raised planters for a new walled garden.

IoD Director of the Year award arrives for Jacqueline O’Donovan

Having been named as the Institute of Directors (IoD) Director of the Year in the family business category at the annual awards event in 2021, Jacqueline O’Donovan, managing director of O’Donovan Waste Disposal, has at last been sent her actual award.

Due to the pandemic, the awards ceremony did not take place in person and due to diary scheduling, it is only now that Jacqueline finally has her prestigious award in her hands. This particular award recognises individuals in family businesses who have responded to the varying commercial climate and who have contributed to the success of the diverse, dynamic and innovative family business sector.

ASFP to hold September building safety seminar

0n6920The Association for Specialist Fire Protection (ASFP) has announced it will hold a seminar in London on Monday 5th September 2022. The event, which will run from 10am-3pm, will be held at the Aviva Building London, 1 Undershaft, London.

Bringing together keynote speakers from across Government and the fire industry, along with ASFP passive fire protection experts, the event will discuss the Building Safety Act and Competency Pathway - how they will affect you?

From teenage Keighley carpentry and joinery apprentice to leader of the UK’s only General Further Education College that specialises in construction, Derek has spent decades training and leading the next generation of builders, engineers, and construction-craft professionals.
