The £11 million-plus project, a partnership between Stoke-on-Trent City Council, Stoke-on-Trent College and the Building Research Establishment (BRE), will see the college's construction students moving to new facilities there, while the college will expand its range of courses.

Timely intervention by City Building means that 30 apprentices – in the last two years – can now complete their training

CITYBUILDING 26City Building has come to the rescue of 30 unemployed trainee apprentices over the past 24 months to help them complete their training after their original employers made them redundant. As one of Scotland’s largest construction companies, City Building has enabled these construction apprentices to continue their training, so that they will be able to make a positive contribution to the economy on completion of their apprenticeship.

WORK EXPERIENCE PROGRAMME GETS OFF TO FLYING START

Young people and employers have been reaping the benefits of a new work experience programme piloted by CITB-ConstructionSkills to encourage more 16 to 18 year olds into the industry. More than 120 would-be construction workers have spent two to four weeks working with a local construction company since the Experience Construction work experience placements started in April.

Apprentice Jay makes the most of new whg scheme

Apprentice Jay Gunn with employer Jason WallA Walsall teenager has taken a step onto the construction career ladder with help from leading Midlands’ housing provider whg. whg has announced an exclusive wage subsidy scheme as part of a campaign to support local construction firms and the next generation of tradesmen and women.  It will pay half an eligible apprentice’s wage for six months and 17-year-old Jay Gunn is the first to benefit.  Employers are invited to get in touch to take advantage of this limited offer, funded by Visionary Investment Enhancing Walsall (VIEW).

Apprenticeship opportunities at Kier

accelerisKier North Tyneside is currently recruiting for ten apprentices to work across a number of professional trades continuing the company’s long standing commitment to supporting local young people into employment. Interviews will be taking place in September and successful candidates will start with the company, which delivers repairs and maintenance services to North Tyneside Council’s 16,000 residents, in October.
