Portobello development gets extensive external brick makeover

Plastic Surgeon, the UK’s leading specialist surface repair firm, has used its skills to enhance the external brickwork of a newly developed retirement living complex in Portobello, Edinburgh. 

The project, Jameson Gate, has been recently developed by McCarthy & Stone, the UK’s leading retirement housebuilder. 

Catering for retirement living, the development is aimed at those who are aged over 60 and, as well as providing facilities such as a sunroom and roof terrace, features 20 one-bedroomed apartments and 22 two-bedroomed apartments. Described as ‘luxurious and stylish’, the building is built to a high specification incorporating quality design.

Specialist contractors under threat from poor payment practices

The businesses of Specialist Contractors working in the construction industry are at considerable risk from main contractors who use underhand and unscrupulous tactics to increase profits by not paying them for work properly carried out.

A recent survey carried out in conjunction with StreetwiseSubbie.com Limited found that up to 93% of Specialist Contractors experience disputes regularly or occasionally. Often these lead to serious financial problems, or even threat of closure, through payments being withheld for spurious reasons.

Firm expands its presence in Yorkshire with appointment of ‘big-hitter’

Financial services broker, Midlands Asset Finance (MAF), has bolstered its presence in Yorkshire by appointing a new Senior Business Development Manager in the region.

Craig Bennett has joined the firm and will be looking to grow MAF’s commercial and corporate client base in Yorkshire as part of the firm’s ongoing strategy.

Warwick University Sports Hub

The excavators are in motion on the new £36million Sports and Wellbeing Facility at Warwick University, with Mick George Ltd completing Earthworks services on behalf of Principal Contractor Wilmott Dixon Construction.

The latter of which is becoming somewhat of an ever-present around the Universities Campuses, having recently completed the award-winning Oculus Building’ which also forms part of the University’s estate regeneration plans that were submitted within the 2007 masterplan for future developments of the Campus.
