First graduates from two-year degree course

The first group of students to complete a unique accelerated degree will graduate from the University of Salford this week.

The ‘accelerated degrees’ – the only ones in the UK construction and property sectors – launched in Autumn 2016, with students attracted to the new all-year calendar, which allows them to complete much quicker. And now the first 20 have finished their studies and will attend a ceremony at the University’s Peel Park Campus on Thursday.

Weston College to open state-of-the-art Construction Training Centre

Weston College is set to play a lead role in tackling the construction industry skills shortage by opening a state-of-the-art industry focused training centre.

The Weston College Construction Training Centre, based just off Junction 21 of the M5, will open in spring 2019 and represents a £3.8 million investment. 

It will offer training in three key construction areas – plant operations, scaffolding, and groundworks.

Period property heated perfectly by heat pump

A stunning period property in rural South Norfolk is now enjoying the benefits of renewable heating thanks to a ground source heat pump installation by Finn Geotherm.

The six bedroom farmhouse in Hingham was built in the 1700s and 1800s and underwent an extensive renovation in 2012. With original features such as large sash windows, heating the house was a challenge for homeowner Jon Daniels.

Trada University Challenge 2019: call for entries!

TRADA is officially calling for entrants to their TRADA University Challenge 2019 in which students will be challenged to design exemplary student accommodation predominantly from timber.

60 students from 30 universities will descend on the University of Sheffield’s Diamond Building for an intense charrette-styled challenge on Friday 8 and Saturday 9 February 2019. Upon arriving, students from the disciplines of engineering, architecture, architectural technology, quantity surveying and landscape architecture will be split up into multidisciplinary teams to compete for cash prizes and the prestige of winning the TRADA University Challenge.
