Structural Concrete Alliance announces 2018 award winner

The Structural Concrete Alliance has announced Volkerlaser Ltd as the winner of the 2018 Structural Concrete Alliance Award for Repair and Refurbishment for its repair and strengthening of a marine quayside at King George Docks, Hull. The award was presented by broadcaster,  Huw Edwards, at the Concrete Society Awards Dinner held at The Royal Lancaster Hotel, London on Wednesday 21st November 2018. 

The repair and strengthening works to 12 Quay at King George Docks in Hull presented an extremely challenging project for Volkerlaser. It involved the use of concrete repair, sprayed concrete, cathodic protection and Carbon Fibre Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) strengthening, to provide a unique solution.

Cygnus alarm system protects Copenhagen’s new science institute

Bull Products, a manufacturer of life-saving fire protection equipment, is expanding into the European market further, after securing a contract in Copenhagen. 

Working alongside distributor, Lindpro, the Cygnus Wireless Alarm System has been installed in Niels Bohr Building, a new science institute which is part of the University of Copenhagen.

Mick George Ltd make ‘Perfect Delivery’

Mick George Ltd has been awarded 'Perfect Delivery' by Morgan Sindall Construction & Infrastructure for the contracting works completed on the new £4.9 million Pines Primary School in Red Lodge, Suffolk.

The project will provide first-class facilities for 210 pupils in the Red Lodge community, including reception, year one and year two places.

Charcon provides new modern public realm

Charcon, the commercial hard landscaping division of Aggregate Industries, has developed and supplied a bespoke permeable flag paver for phase 1 of Haringey Council’s White Hart Lane public realm improvement project. Phase one was completed in September 2018 and complements a separate £800 million pound project which will see the Tottenham Hotspur Football stadium and surrounding residential areas completely transformed.

Through a long-established relationship with muf architecture/art, Charcon was approached to design and supply a high quality concrete permeable flag paver with aesthetic appeal. Works entailed the widening and reconstruction of various footways, but predominately the repaving of the busy thoroughfare between Creighton Road and High Road, the main route between the station and the stadium on match day.
