Skills Minister praises college for its ‘forward-thinking’ on green technologies

0cic59fSkills and Apprenticeships Minister Robert Halfon MP visited New City College’s Hackney Campus to meet students and find out about the college’s Low Carbon Technologies Training Centre.

During a tour of the innovative new labs, he commented on the forward-thinking approach of the college and its renewable energies facilities, saying: “This really is the future.”

ASFP announces the 2023 Passive Fire Protection Awards finalists

PR 297 awards finalists 002The Association for Specialist Fire Protection has announced the shortlist for its 2023 Passive Fire Protection Awards, with the winners due to be announced on 23 November at the Association’s Awards Dinner at the Leonardo Royal Hotel in London. As well as showcasing the award winners, the event will feature special guest speaker, comedian Hal Crutten.

West College Scotland is leading the way in Fire Sprinkler Installation training

BAFSA 880x440pxCurrently the only college in Scotland, and one of only 3 colleges in the UK to provide the training, West College is offering the ABBE Level 2 Certificate in Fire Sprinkler Installation covering Residential and Commercial sprinkler installation.

From March 2021, updated sprinkler regulations made it a legal requirement for all social housing and all properties over 11m to be fitted with automatic fire suppression systems in Scotland. These legislative changes were introduced following work by the Ministerial Working Group on Building and Fire Safety who oversee reviews of building and fire safety regulations, frameworks and guidance, and any other relevant matters, to help ensure that people are safe in Scotland’s buildings.
