Ground source heat pump sector backs new unified trade body — HPA UK

HPA logoThe Ground Source Heat Pump Association (GSHPA), together with the Heat Pump Association (HPA) and the Heat Pump Federation (HPF), has formally agreed to merge into a single, unified trade body — Heat Pump Association UK (HPA UK) — launching in January 2026.

This landmark decision marks a defining moment for the UK’s low-carbon heating sector, bringing together the full spectrum of heat pump technologies under one powerful voice.

With heating responsible for around 25% of UK carbon emissions, accelerating the transition to low-carbon solutions is vital not only for achieving climate targets but also for delivering cleaner, cheaper, more secure energy to homes and businesses. Ground source heat pumps — with their exceptional efficiency and long-term performance — have a critical role to play in that transition.

By aligning with our partner associations, the GSHPA ensures that the ground source sector is represented at the highest strategic level, with greater influence over policy, regulation, standards, training, and market development.

The new unified body will deliver:

  • Strong and consistent representation to government and stakeholders
  • Clearer messaging and improved consumer and installer confidence
  • Streamlined governance and enhanced member services
  • A single, authoritative point of contact for industry collaboration

Emma Bohan, Vice Chair of the Ground Source Heat Pump Association, commented:

“Our members gave an overwhelming mandate to proceed with the merger, recognising that unity brings strength. For ground source, this ensures we have influence where it matters most — protecting our interests while amplifying our impact across the wider heat pump sector.”

To welcome organisations into the new Association ahead of launch, the HPA (soon to become HPA UK) is offering free membership for the remainder of 2025 to all new members who commit to joining for the 2026 calendar year.

Ground source companies joining now will gain early access to:

  • Working groups and policy engagement
  • Technical and standards input
  • Events, networking and industry forums
  • Brand visibility across the united heat pump sector
