The Concrete Society celebrates golden anniversary doing what it does best

Over 150 delegates enjoyed the full-day Evolving Concrete® conference and exhibition in mid-October, featuring thought-provoking, inspiring and educational presentations embracing the themes of ‘Performance, Specification and Practice’.

Held at the splendid Royal Berkshire Conference Centre, Reading, Berkshire, The Concrete Society drew upon its position as a centre of independent technical excellence for the past 50 years and attracted an authoritative line-up of industry professionals presenting a range of technical content to delegates.

This included distinguished speakers, Stephen Hodder MBE, Immediate Past-President of RIBA, and Alan Crossman, current President of the Institution of Structural Engineers, opening the seminar sessions with keynote speeches. The day ensured that the passion for the most widely used material in the construction industry continued and provided like-minded professionals with the opportunity to discuss products and techniques with the exhibitors, while learning new innovative ideas during the CPD seminar programme.

Feedback from delegates and exhibitors has been excellent. Ian Berrie, head of marketing for UK & Ireland at BASF Construction Chemicals, said, “I have to say that this year’s Evolving Concrete was an excellent event and I absolutely enjoyed it. You got the balance just right and the quality of the speakers and the venue was spot-on. You can count on our participation next year.”

Adrian Clark, business development director at Banah UK, added, “We are new members. This event gave us quite high-profile exposure and generated a number of commercial opportunities that we are following up, which we would not have easily otherwise received.”

Alain Renaud, structural design manager at Bouygues UK, remarked, “It was a great day overall, with good timing and opportunities to meet exhibitors and other delegates.”

The Society’s 50th Anniversary celebrations continued at a conference dinner, where exhibitors, delegates and Regional Committee members were able to network in an informal atmosphere. Hosted by Jason Mohammad, the highly entertaining sports presenter, guests enjoyed themselves until the early hours.

Managing Director, Kathy Calverley said, “The success of this event proves once again our dedication to give independent and unbiased support to the use of the most widely used building material in the world. We are delighted with the backing from industry that we received for the event and grateful to our speakers and exhibitors for making the day so successful. We are looking forward to meeting old friends and new at next year’s Evolving Concrete.”

Evolving Concrete® will be staged again in autumn 2017. Keep an eye on: www.evolving-concrete.org for all forthcoming details.
