At last! Specialist contractors' payment problems solved

With millions of pounds involved it’s time to stop ignoring the shameful way that Specialist Sub-Contractors continue to go unpaid or under paid and fights for fair payment.
JCB, one of Britain’s biggest exporters, is to quit the CBI in protest at its stance against Brexit, and it’s yet another example of how far out of touch the Government and some institutions are with the real world.
JCB, the third largest manufacturer of construction equipment in the world, is frustrated by the CBI’s ‘apocalyptic warnings that leaving the EU ‘could cost £100billion and lead to 950,000 job losses.’ Whilst the Government and other influential organisations make exaggerated and uncheckable claims about what will or won’t happen, they ignore what is going on right under their nose.
No more is this so than in the construction industry where the government and other bodies choose to ignore the shameful way that Specialist Sub-Contractors continue to go unpaid or under paid, for work properly and professionally carried out.
Millions of pounds, including tax payer’s money, goes unpaid, often, forcing the subbies to fight disputes and contest onerous claims, as certain Main Contractors unfairly retain monies paid to them by their clients and you the tax payer!
StreetwiseSubbie.com, is a national organisation that exclusively helps the Specialist Contractors fight back against poor payment practices and is almost a lone voice in trying to change the status quo.
“Time after time our consultants are called in to help Specialist Contractors owed tens or hundreds of thousands of pounds wrongly held back by main contractors” says Barry Ashmore, managing director of StreetwiseSubbie. “StreetwiseSubbie has carried out surveys, given evidence to Parliamentary inquiry and appeared on local and national radio, but despite Government and BuildUK claims to the contrary, the late payment situation has gone from bad to worse”, says Ashmore.
In a bid to help more Specialist Contractors resolve payment and related business problems, StreetwiseSubbie is taking its message to next week’s Build Show at the NEC.
And Streetwise is inviting all Specialist Contractors to pop along to their stand, where they will be able to talk to expert industry consultants who will help them to find solutions to all sorts of business problems.
Says Ashmore, “It seems that sometimes it takes a big name like JCB to make people sit up and look at things happening in the industry in a different light. We might not be a big name but we pack a big punch in terms of helping subbies get paid with millions of pounds already recovered for our Buddies. And we will carry on raising awareness of the problem as well as providing “hands on” help and advice for Specialist Contractors.”
