Carbon Zero Consulting wins prestigious Chelsea Barracks contract

Carbon Zero Consulting (www.carbonzeroco.com) is delighted to announce that they have been appointed to work on the prestigious redevelopment of one of London’s most iconic former military landmarks, Chelsea Barracks. Working alongside IFTech Ltd, a specialist in underground thermal energy storage systems, Carbon Zero Consulting are providing council on a number of significant regulatory compliance matters relating to the installation of one of the UK’s largest renewable heating and cooling systems.

Chelsea Barracks, which is a 5.2ha former military site in the city of Westminster is undergoing major redevelopment over the next three years. This major historical London landmark will undergo transformation to include residential, retail, healthcare and leisure facilities.

As part of this significant project, an open loop aquifer thermal energy storage (ATES) system, designed by IFTech Ltd, will be installed in different phases to provide renewable heating and cooling. This system, which will be one of the UK’s largest comprising five borehole ‘doublets’ in the underlying chalk aquifer with a total groundwater flow rate of over 150m3/h will be overseen by IFTech and Carbon Zero Consulting. Together their role is to aid the installation of boreholes, pipework, heat pumps and the complex control system.

John Findlay, Managing Director, Carbon Zero Consulting says, “We’re thrilled to be working on such an iconic project! It is quite rare in our line of work, to have the privilege to work on not only one of the UK’s most prestigious redevelopments, but also one of the largest installations of heating and cooling systems in the UK – very exciting indeed.

John continues, “We have built an extremely good relationship with Nicholas Boid, Director of IFTech, over the years having worked on many projects together and believe this is a fantastic partnership to deliver the required brief.”

Nicholas Boid, Director of IFTech Ltd, adds, “These are very exciting times ahead for such a redevelopment and we are naturally delighted to have been appointed and to work alongside Carbon Zero Consulting. We believe that with our experience, we are best equipped to work on such a high profile project, which will no doubt provide some challenges along the way.”
