The University of Reading has appointed GRAHAM Construction to its major building works framework to support the delivery of its £250m building programme over the next 10 to 15 years.
The £250m capital works programme will primarily focus on the upgrade of facilities on the Whiteknights campus. Plans include a Science Park building and refurbishing the URS building, commonly known as the ‘lego building’, by transforming the interior into an open-plan layout and remodelling the 1970s School of Architecture building which will also include the university’s construction management, art and graphics departments. Construction is due to start in January 2017, with completion in December 2018.
Janis Pich, Estates and Facilities Director at the University of Reading said: “In renewing our contractors’ frameworks we are preparing for the next phase of development at the University. This is an exciting time which will lead to renewal of some of our heritage buildings along with additional new build projects, bringing superb new facilities to our students. We are delighted to have such a strong group of contractors to work with.”
Rob Joyce, GRAHAM Construction’s London office director said: “GRAHAM have a strong track record of working with universities across the country, and we are delighted to have the opportunity to work with the University of Reading in the delivery of their capital works programme. It’s fantastic that the University of Reading is heavily investing in the creation of high-quality facilities for their students to give them the best head start in their careers. ”
