Construction recruitment specialists announce new offices and appointments

Due to major business growth, a Plymouth recruitment agency has announced a series of new appointments and a £100,000 investment in new offices.

Sphere Solutions, which specialises in recruitment for the construction industry, has relocated to The Millfields, the site of the Grade 2 listed former Royal Naval Hospital.

Partnership helps Landscape Architects unlock new technologies

Newcastle and London-based urban designers, landscape architects and masterplanners, Colour, is finding new ways of implementing the latest technology in its work thanks to a partnership with Teesside University.

Colour has taken on two members of staff at its Newcastle headquarters with the help of different schemes run by the University to help companies recruit talent and develop new skills in their business.

But there is a severe problem with workforces being able to see on the drawing that their's is one of several layers of protection. They can do their work badly because the client will be saved by one of the others.

RIBA to launch new range of building contracts

The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) is launching two new and innovative building contracts next month (5 November). Designed to be used in conjunction with RIBA’s Architect’s Appointment Agreements for Small Projects (domestic and concise forms); the new contracts are fully aligned with the RIBA Plan of Work 2013.

The new contracts have been designed in response to feedback from RIBA members calling for improvement and innovation within the building contracts currently available.

The Portable Sanitation Expo will return for 2015 on 25-26th February at a new, larger venue - the Ricoh Arena, Coventry. “Orange Army” of engineers behind Dawlish repairs top engineering Oscars

The team of engineers who worked 24/7 to reopen the Dawlish rail link following the severe weather at the start of 2014, have been awarded the prestigious Brunel Medal at the 2014 Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) Awards today. 

The Brunel Medal, named after civil engineering great Isambard Kingdom Brunel, recognises individuals or teams who have shown excellence in civil engineering. Fittingly, this year it goes to a team who repaired part of a railway Brunel himself designed.

CDM Regulations 2015: HSE - you cannot be serious!

Surely the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) cannot be serious about issuing revised CDM Regulations in 2015 that are seriously flawed and will have a detrimental effect on the number of fatal and serious injuries in the building industry.

The HSE issued a draft of the proposed new regulations with a consultation document earlier this year and they have reviewed the submissions that they received. Their latest proposals make little sense and will produce unsatisfactory regulations.
