Safety & Access - Celebrating 25 Years - Open Day

On June 9th, 2016 at CATCH, Stallingborough, Safety & Access are celebrating 25 years of supporting industry with an update day at their Humber Training Centre.

The day features input from CISRS and NASC along with presentations from one of the largest principal contractors in the UK.

Safety barrier expert A-SAFE features in annual export growth league table

For the second consecutive year, Yorkshire-based company A-Safe (UK) Ltd has featured in the Sunday Times Heathrow SME Export Track 100 league table, which lists Britain’s fastest-growing SMEs based on international sales.

NASC launches user-friendly SG4 You pocket guide (2015)

The NASC has launched the eagerly-awaited, user-friendly SG4 You (2015) pocket guide further to publication of its core scaffolding fall prevention guidance note, SG4:15 ‘Preventing Falls in Scaffolding Operations’ – with support from BuildUK.

This convenient, but detailed 86-page A6 pocket guide is designed for scaffolding operatives and managers to use as a handy reference document whilst out on site and to support the main, detailed SG4:15 A4 management guide – which is available as a free download via the NASC website: www.nasc.org.uk.

Construction industry’s chance to pledge support for the Lighthouse Club

Construction industry charity, The Lighthouse Club, is calling on firms and employees across the sector to vote for it to benefit from a £20,000 donation pot pledged by Hudson Contract to mark its 20th anniversary. 

The Lighthouse Club is one of just four charities that can benefit from the generous initiative being launched by the leading construction audit, contract and payroll provider to celebrate its birthday and give something back to both the industry and leading good causes.

APS calls for entries into National CDM Awards as deadline approaches

The Association for Project Safety (APS) is calling for entries into its ninth National CDM and Student Designer Awards, with the deadline for submissions rapidly approaching at the end of this month.

Entries into the awards will close on Tuesday 31 May, with judging by an expert panel of industry figure-heads, including the Health and Safety Executive, taking place over the summer months. Following the vigorous judging process, the shortlist of successful entries will be announced in early September, with the winner revealed at an awards ceremony on Thursday 27 October at the Radisson Blu Portman Hotel, London.

Have you taken the BIG Biodiversity Challenge?

CIRIA is delighted to announce that the BIG Biodiversity Challenge 2016 is now open for entries. Now in its third year, the Challenge invites leaders from across construction, infrastructure, transport, retail and Government to ‘do one thing’ for biodiversity.

Led by CIRIA’s Biodiversity Interest Group, the BIG Biodiversity Challenge invites the industry to add one new biodiversity enhancement to a construction site, development or existing building, however big or small, permanent or temporary, and be creative about enhancing biodiversity.

Safety & Access open CISRS Accredited Scaffolding Training Centre in Nepal

Safety and Access are very proud to announce a partnership with Aecor in Kathmandu and the opening of a CISRS Accredited Training facility in the capital. 

The training facility is now open and is offering scaffolder skills training along with scaffolding supervisor and inspection training. There are also plans to further enhance and expand the support services in the future.

NASC and CISRS to exhibit at UK’s largest Health & Safety event

The NASC and CISRS will be exhibiting for the third year running at the UK’s largest and leading health and safety event – the Safety & Health Expo, June 21-23 at London’s prestigious ExCeLvenue.

Visitors to the flagship 2016 Expo event – which attracts 15,000+ people and this year sees keynote presentations at the linked IOSH conference by BBC Chief Reporter Kate Adie OBE, Olympic oarsman James Cracknell OBE and ‘Rules of Engagement’ author and ex-forces Colonel Tim Collin OBE – will be treated to 100+ industry speakers, in six theatres over the three days (adding up to 60+ hours of CPD accredited education) and more than 350 exhibitors will be taking part, including NASC and CISRS on Stand S1850.

CISRS Overseas Scaffolder Training Scheme (OSTS) middle east update

The CISRS Overseas Scaffolder Training Scheme (OSTS) is booming in the Middle East region – following a visit by Scheme Manager, Dave Mosley.

Mr Mosley recently returned from a trip to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), where he carried out successful annual accreditation audits on two leading CISRS OSTS training providers, Safety & Access Middle East at Um Al Quwain and Simian Skill in Dubai. This is the forth successful accreditation for both brands, after they were initially accredited in 2013.

Build UK drives standards for construction industry

Build UK continues to drive positive change in the UK’s construction industry, building on its progress over the past eight months with the release of two new industry standards.

The Safety Helmet Colours and Training Standards, drafted in consultation with, and the full support of, Build UK members to develop best practice and ensure the effective delivery of construction projects across the UK.
