The Joint Fire Code (Fire Prevention on Construction Sites) has been amended and updated to both bring it in line with current legislation and maintain its market-leading position on health and safety and fire prevention on construction sites.

 The code has been comprehensively updated and includes additional sections. The areas which have been updated include:
• Recognition of the widespread use of timber-framed structures and additional fire loading hazards that this introduces.
• Specific consideration to address the potential problems of the use of acetylene on site.
• Recognition of the changes brought into smoking laws.
• Specific consideration of maintaining suitable fire safety standards in high-rise premises during construction.
• Changes in legislation such as the CDM regulations, introduction of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order and other associated fire related legislation.
The document, which is jointly published by the Construction Confederation and Fire Protection Association, continues to be supported by the Association of British Insurers and is required to be complied with under a number of insurance policies. In addition, the new version has also been circulated to and endorsed by a number of trade bodies, including the RIBA, the ICE, the NSCC and HBF, thereby giving increased recognition to its important role in fire prevention on construction sites.
