Murphy outlined its commitment to supporting new people entering the tunnelling industry through recent attendance at the first Industry and Community Days at Crossrail’s Tunnelling and Underground Construction Academy (TUCA).
Tunnelling and Underground Construction Academy is a new, purpose-built facility in Ilford, East London. Crossrail Ltd established TUCA in 2011 to address a shortage of people with the necessary skills to work in tunnel excavation and underground construction. Crossrail works closely with industry partners and professional bodies to ensure that the facilities and curriculum at TUCA meet current and future industry needs.
The first open days held at the new facility formally launched the curriculum and offered visitors the opportunity to find out more on the courses on offer, meet sponsors and view the facilities first hand.
Murphy staff attended the event to exhibit, meet and network with local authorities, skills councils, community and industry stakeholder groups.
