Terence O’Rourke wins MIPIM award for Best Industrial and Logistics Development

National planning and design consultancy Terence O’Rourke Ltd and architects Foster & Partners have won a MIPIM award in Cannes for their exceptional work with the McLaren Production Centre.
The MIPIM awards are the oscars of the property world and annually recognise the most innovative industry projects, with only the most outstanding technical and architectural work making the final selection process.
Tim Hancock, Terence O’Rourke managing director, comments: “It’s a great honour for us to receive this international award, especially as we were the only UK project nominated in this category. The award is a testament to the hard work and dedication our team show on behalf of clients.”
The McLaren Production Centre project won the new category of Best Industrial and Logistics Development, which was added this year. The new category reflects changes in the real estate industry and places more emphasis on the specialist technical requirements of specific projects.
Work at the McLaren Production Centre was completed towards the end of 2011 and involved Terence O’Rourke overseeing the planning, environmental and design aspects of the project. The company also worked closely with Foster & Partners, the building architect for the development.
The project provided bespoke accommodation for McLaren to produce its new, high performance MP4-12C sports vehicles. McLaren plans to produce more than 4,000 of its MP4-12C sports vehicles at the new facility by 2015, and has aspirations to develop a new model each year.
Tim continues: “McLaren are world leaders and a truly inspirational client. The project required a number of our specialist skills including; landscape architecture, environmental consultancy, master and town planning.
“Our landscape-led plan built on the success of the existing McLaren campus to ensure new buildings were carefully sited and designed to create a stunning building that meets the client's exacting standards.”
More than 100 completed or upcoming projects were considered during the rigorous selection process for the awards, with eventually one winner being chosen for each category. This year, the geographical spread of projects provided an exceptional panorama of the global market. 47 countries were represented, including Vietnam, Uruguay, Spain, Serbia, Kazakhstan, Argentina, Brazil, Hong Kong, Sweden, the Netherlands, and the United States. Combined with the jury’s ranking, MIPIM delegates’ also voted during the four-day event to determine the winners.
