Morgan Sindall tipped for £22m Matalan HQ
Contract details are currently being finalised, however Morgan Sindall is believed to have fended off competition from Preston-based Eric Wright Construction to win the scheme.
CN revealed it was one of four contractors bidding the Knowsley scheme in November. The others were Bam Construct, Eric Wright Construction and Willmott Dixon.
Sources have told that Morgan Sindall is favourite for the job, but Eric Wright Construction and Morgan Sindall are yet to receive confirmation on an appointment.
The retailer’s new 12,200 sq m headquarters will be arranged over three levels at the premises, part of a major regeneration of the former Petrolite site and the Galaxy Distribution Centre by Maro Developments.
It is hoped that construction will begin early in 2013, with completion by 2014.
The design team is led by architects Fletcher Rae. Planning permission for the scheme includes a 9,300 sq m extension to the neighbouring 36,450 sq m Galaxy distribution centre and was granted by Knowsley Council in October.
The discount retailer currently employs more than 1,000 people from its base at Skelmersdale in West Lancashire.
