Iconic Chesterfield Market Hall All Set For Upgrade
Chesterfield’s iconic Market Hall is now one step closer to its planned refurbishment after Chesterfield Borough Council’s planning committee approved the planning and listed building application. A construction programme is now being prepared in order that work can start in February 2012.
Cllr John Burrows, Leader of Chesterfield Borough Council said: "This development is going to be one of the town's most exciting projects as the Market Hall is such a well used and much loved building.
"The plans we have for the Hall (below) will not just see a major upgrade to the building itself but will add a completely new dimension to the town's shopping offer and provide fantastic facilities for local residents and visitors to enjoy."
Existing Market Hall tenants will be housed in a temporary market building after Christmas on New Square until the construction work is completed.
Wates Construction, in conjunction with Mace, will be managing the project and will be organising a series of events to find sub-contractors for the different elements of the building work.
The Council and Wates are aiming to place orders as far as possible with local sub-contractors and to employ local people in the construction site.
A 'Meet the Buyer' event will be announced prior to construction. This event will allow local businesses to register their interest in the scheme and meet with Wates Construction.
