Eight shortlisted for £900m Scottish NHS Framework
Balfour Beatty, Bam Construct, Interserve, Kier, Laing O’Rourke and a consortium including Morgan Sindall are all in the mix for the lucrative four-year framework, which carries an optional two-year extension.
Work worth an estimated £100m-£150m each year will be carried out for hospitals across Scotland, potentially totalling £900m.
The contract’s predecessor was delivered by Bam Construct, Galliford Try, Interserve, Laing O’Rourle and Robertson Dawn Health; that framework came to an end in January 2013.
High-profile projects procured under the first framework inclsuded an £11m Emergency Care Centre for NHS Grampian and the £47.2m Royal Victoria redevelopment in Edinburgh.
NHS National Services Scotland will now narrow the list from the current eight to a list of five delivery partners.
The contractors in the race are:
Balfour Beatty
Bam Construct
Graham
Interserve
Kier
Laing O’ Rourke
Morrison
RMF (Robertson, Morgan Sindall, FES)
Multiple NHS Trusts, the Scottish Ambulance Service and the Golden Jubilee Hospital could all use the framework’s services.
Work to be procured under the framework will include construction, conversion, adaptation and repair of clinical specialist and associated facilities.
The Scottish government’s State of the NHS Scotland Estate report, published as the contract went out to tender, identified an “urgent and significant investment required” of £1bn to reduce backlog maintenance viability.
