YUILL HOMES WINS NATIONAL HOUSING AWARD FOR NORTH TYNESIDE REGENERATION PROJECT
Leading North East housebuilder Yuill Homes has won a prestigious national housing award for its successful regeneration of a Longbenton housing estate, in partnership with North Tyneside Council.
Yuill Homes’ Queensbury housing development received the Gold award for Best Partnership Scheme of the year at the annual What House? Awards 2011 – the longest established new homes awards, celebrating the achievements of housebuilders and developers across the UK in 21 categories.
The overall £61 million regeneration of Longbenton was launched by North Tyneside Council in 1999 to help breathe new life into the former run-down site. More than a decade on, the Queensbury development has helped to transform the area into a desirable place to live with a selection of mixed tenure affordable housing, as well as providing new community and retail facilities at the nearby Boulevard Shopping Centre, including the Oxford Centre, on West Farm Avenue.
David Mullins, managing director for Yuill Homes, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to have received the Gold award for Best Partnership Scheme at this year’s What House? Awards and are proud to have worked alongside North Tyneside Council on such an important regeneration project.
“Over the last decade we’ve successfully worked in partnership with a range of public, private and voluntary sector organisations as part of the regeneration of Longbenton, such as ward councillors, the Longbenton Youth Project and the community as a whole. This award proves the partnership’s passion for improving the quality of life for those living in the area through housing renewal.
“The coordinated approach applied by partners throughout the project has been fundamental to the successful regeneration of Longbenton and has helped to breathe new life into the area for future generations to enjoy.”
North Tyneside’s Elected Mayor, Mrs Linda Arkley, said: “The successful regeneration of Longbenton Estate has required the long term commitment of both the Council and Yuill Homes. I am therefore very pleased to receive this prestigious award together with Yuill Homes, which recognises the hard work put into the regeneration of Longbenton Estate by all those involved.
“The regeneration scheme has clearly demonstrated the success of the strong partnership between the Council and Yuill Homes, but it is also important to recognise that the support of the community throughout was fundamental to the success of the regeneration scheme and local residents are the long term beneficiaries of this partnership working.”
