NFRC put a (canvas) roof over Guides' heads

altA Guide group in Grays were desperate for funding to help purchase new tents in time for Essex International Jamboree this summer and the National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC) gladly stepped in to help.

4th Grays Guides, based in Grays, Essex, had a disastrous camp earlier this year when the roof of their patrol tents flooded. But with just weeks until the group were due to attend Essex International Jamboree they were in need of new tents, and fast. NFRC, the UK’s largest roofing trade association, heard about their dilemma and were more than happy to help support the girls, sponsoring the group £350 to buy new tents.

Tanya Coutts, Assistant Guide Leader at 4th Grays Guides, said: “We were delighted at the money donated to us by NFRC and the Guides were thrilled when they saw their new dry tents.”

Essex International Jamboree is held once every four years and this year the event took place in Chelmsford between 18th and 25th August. The week was full of opportunities and challenges for the group who, along with 7,000 other international Guides and Scouts, had the chance and freedom to try things they had never had the chance to try before, such as climbing, abseiling, zorbing, circus skills, rifle shooting, scuba diving, canoeing and so much more.
