The facts on OLCI electrician courses
It’s worth reading these comments from some of the learners who have already taken one of the OLCI electrician courses. They can help you gain a useful insight into the training involved and what the learners think of it. If you are considering training for a career in the trades then this could help you decide too.
Ben Smith wanted to get qualified in the trades so that he can ‘eventually start my own business and be my own boss. I believe this would be a career best suited to me.’ He decided to enrol with OLCI as ‘there was no pressure in signing up as other companies seemed like they were trying to sell me the course. Also OLCI have many more workshops around the UK.’ Before enrolling on the course, Ben was ‘out of work for 6 months. I served in the army for 5 years before.’ The best part of the training was ‘getting a hands-on approach to the work’ because ‘I understand things better when doing things hands-on’. Ben highlighted that the tutors were ‘very friendly and they are great when you need help’. Ben finds the practical training ‘very good’ because ‘you have your own work bay and are able to carry out tasks in your own time’. Overall, Ben says that the training is ‘very helpful. All around, really glad I chose OLCI and the course.’ Ben agrees that ‘the support I receive from OLCI is helpful’ and that ‘I will use the OLCI Career Support for job or business support’.

Energy Influenced Upgrades
When J.M. Electrical Co., www.jmelectrical.com, Lynnfield, Mass., completed construction and project operations at the Castle Square Apartments located in Boston's historic South End neighborhood, the work came with a green appeal. Energy efficiency is the name of the game today in construction, and these upgrades certainly fit the bill.
It is no surprise that J.M. Electrical Co., would focus on energy efficiency in its work. After all, the company is known for working in advanced automated building system installations. In an effort to reduce energy demand and consumption, Castle Square Apartments created an energy conservation plan to upgrade all apartment units and facility HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) systems with energy efficient technology. London’s triumph begets Rio contracts; but does Whitehall know what it’s doing on procurement?
Much emphasis in the construction news of the past week or so has been on building procurement in the public sector. First, on 10 September the All Party Parliamentary Group for Excellence in Public Building – a snappy title, you must agree – published its report calling for a "procurement revolution" to deliver better value for money in public sector construction projects.
It cited the Olympic Delivery Authority for London 2012 as a shining example of how it's done. This week the PM revealed during a visit to Brazil (one of the downsides of hosting the next Games) that many of the people and companies involved in delivering that infrastructure project have been engaged by the Rio organisers to perform the same task next time around.
