Stoke-based fwb sponsors award for regional teenage entrepreneurs

Sponsoring an award for budding teenage entrepreneurs at the Young Enterprise North West Company Programme Finals Evening 2014, Stoke-based supply chain partner, fwb also sent along two members of its team to help select the winners of the regional round of this national competition.

The competition is organised by Young Enterprise, the United Kingdom’s largest business and enterprise education charity.

Supporting the young business community

An established employer in Stoke, fwb is keen to support the younger business community by contributing to these kinds of events. The company sponsored the ‘Best Sales Team’ award at the ceremony, which took place on Thursday 19th June at Barclays Technology Centre Radbroke in Knutsford.

fwb ‘secret shoppers’ spot entrepreneurial aptitude

Simon Nicholson, fwb Business Development Manager, and Julian Ford, fwb Commercial Manager attended the regional finals evening as ‘secret shoppers’, visiting each of the six finalists’ stalls. They selected their winner based on the team’s natural ability to engage with them and their aptitude for selling their products. The winning team were Lower Sixth Form students from Abbey Gate College in Chester, who also won the overall event and a place at the UK final. They created ‘Wolf Tales’, a professionally produced children’s book that aims to help 4-6 year olds learn to read.

Commenting on the evening, Julian Ford said:  “The ‘North West’ had over 200 mini enterprises compete in 2014 so it was a privilege to meet the finalists at this impressiveevent. The students demonstrated a considered and resourceful business approach with a clear desire to deliver – we definitely saw potential for the business community of the future.”

Students got to set-up and run a real firm for a year under the guidance of a business volunteer, gaining practical experience with the opportunity to understand the joys and pitfalls of creating a truly functioning enterprise. They did everything from raising the initial share capital through to designing and making their product or service to selling directly to customers at specially organised trade fairs and ultimately winding up the firm and paying their taxes!

fwb is an established supply chain partner. A procurement expert and product distributor for mechanical engineering, civils and RMI projects, fwb operates in major market sectors including infrastructure, construction, industrial and public sector throughout the UK.
