A Yuill Homes’ site manager has been recognised for his exceptional site management skills, after winning the National House Building Council’s Pride in the Job Quality Award (NHBC) for the fourth successive year.
Steve Cook, 41, from Wolviston Village, has once again proven that he is amongst the best in the business by winning another NHBC Quality Award which aims to find Britain’s best run building sites.

Moss Side development wins best residential housing award

Mosscare Housing's Greenheys development in Moss Side, Manchester, has scooped the award for best residential scheme in the North West at the annual Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors awards.
The scheme beat off competition from a number of other housing associations and private developers to win the prestigious award. Designed by architects, the Bernard Taylor Partnership, it was developed by Mosscare Housing with Rowlinson Construction and employers' agents, Appleyard and Trew.

NHBC announces first round Pride in the Job winners

On 22 June the National House Builders Council (NHBC) announced the winners of the Quality Awards and the Single Home Commendations the first round in its annual Pride in the Job competition. Pride in the Job recognizes the achievement of the UK's housebuilding site managers in creating homes of outstanding quality.
Site managers are uniquely positioned to influence the quality of new homes, being responsible for managing a site from beginning to end. The 450 individuals shortlisted for these awards can justifiably claim to be in the top few per cent of their profession.

Wienerberger, the leading provider of wall, roof and landscaping innovations, is celebrating its first award win of the year, after its clay block walling system, Porotherm, achieved a ‘Highly Commended’ at the Housebuilder Product Awards 2013.
As a winner from the ‘Best Internal/External Product’ category, the award win means that Porotherm will be automatically entered into the ‘Product of the Year’ category at the 2013 Housebuilder Awards to be held later this year.

£350m Gateshead housing regeneration scheme goes for planning

Planning applications for the first phases of one of the most ambitious housing regeneration projects seen on Tyneside in decades have been submitted to Gateshead Council.
Plans for 472 new homes on sites in Saltwell & Bensham, Deckham and Birtley in Gateshead have been submitted by Gateshead Regeneration Partnership (GRP).

£7m housing development plan for Thorntree Library site

A £7m extra care housing development is being planned in Middlesbrough.
The former Thorntree Library and Youth Centre would be demolished to make way for the project proposed by the Vela Housing Group, which includes Housing Hartlepool and Tristar Homes.
Middlesbrough Council’s executive sub-committee for property has agreed to transfer the site to Vela so the development can go ahead.
The project is subject to a bid being successful for cash from a care and support housing fund being run by the Homes and Communities Agency.

£30m Self-Build investment fund welcomes first applications

The first applications for a slice of a new £30million self-build investment fund have been earmarked for approval, Housing Minister Mark Prisk has announced.
Speaking at a special self-build workshop for local authority Leaders in London, Mr Prisk said that the first projects would benefit from over £1.1million to start work on up to 20 self-build plots.
Following final checks and approvals, the applications in North East Derbyshire and Peterborough will be the first to receive the funding, which provides short-term finance to help unlock projects where groups of self-build homes are built at the same time.

£12m boost to help cities kick-start green deal

Seven cities across England have received a share of £12m from the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) to help them kick-start the Green Deal in their regions.
The cities – Birmingham, Bristol, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle, Nottingham and Sheffield – have put forward ambitious proposals to lower their carbon emissions and this new funding will support their plans to test key elements of the Green Deal.
