Grassroots ‘people power’ is at the heart of the breath-taking transformation of a West Midlands former council estate – and a local district nurse was one of the key drivers who brought the project to fruition.
Mother-of-two Wendy Bodenham moved to the Lyng area of West Bromwich in 1988 and has become such a part of the fabric of the community that she has lived there ever since.

Nottingham council homes get the go ahead

Plans for 31 brand new council homes were approved yesterday by Nottingham City Council’s Planning Committee.
The homes on Cranwell Road in Strelley will be built on the site currently occupied by the crosswall flats.
Demolition of the flats, which is being carried out by Nottingham company, Total Reclaims, will begin in June.

In response to Housing Minister Kris Hopkins’ pledge to provide funding for more affordable homes across the UK Jeremy Blackburn, RICS UK Head of Policy, has said:
“Anything that boosts the number of new homes across the country can only be a good thing for the market and the wider economy. On this basis, today’s announcement is, most definitely, a step in the right direction. It is encouraging that, under this scheme, housing associations will be able to specifically select the types of housing needed in their area.

Plans for a new market town near Plymouth have taken a major step forward following the formation of a group of housebuilders and the formal consolidation of the land into that consortium.
Planning permission was granted in November for the new 5,500-home Sherford community five miles to the east of Plymouth city centre, and the consortium has now taken control of the 1,200-acre site.
